Pumpkin Spice Style + a giveaway!

It is officially pumpkin spice season...but in Georgia, that means the lows may reach the low 60's, but the highs are still reaching the upper 80's. Basically, if you are going to live in the south you must know how to dress for at least 3 seasons to occur in one day...This causes a conundrum for the basic southern girl. What in the world can we wear that will be, at least, semi-comfortable no matter how many seasons decide to show up that day? Well, I try to cover my bases and do the light layer approach. I am a walking stereotype who can't wait to wear a blanket scarf with my hair in a messy bun as I drink my PSL...even if it is 85 degrees in mid October!

Our petit punkin is 9 months old today!  It is hard to believe Vivian will be a year old this fall!  I never knew what a thief time was, until I had a second child.  She is still a baby, sure...but she is no longer an infant who needs to be cradled and wrapped in a blanket all the time.  She no longer stays still in my arms, and instead crawls all over me.  She is starting to eat chunkier foods, against her will.  She is not a fan of the textures right now, but loves her cereal puffs.  This past month has been a fun and exhausting one with Miss Vivian.  

She puts the RE back in sleep regression as she still gets up once at night.  She did so good sleeping through the night months 3-7...Praying she is able to start sleeping through the night again soon!  This past month also brought a monster called separation anxiety.  If mama is in sight, bebe demands to be in her arms only.  She will hardly let anyone else hold her when I am around and has also started crying when I drop her off at daycare...with teachers she truly adores and that adore her.  She is in a high maintenance stage right now, but one grin flashing her one and only tooth and we forget about the demanding babe she can be.  She is a babbling, moving almost 9 month old that is full of personality and has opinions about...well errything!

A gal with this much personality needs a wardrobe to match her spunk.   I am looking forward to putting more style in her wardrobe for the early fall.  I have gone back on my word about two things I swore I would never do...Dress Vivian in tulle and big bows.  I totally get why so many mamas dress their baby girls in tulle and I plan to make sure Vivian has these dresses (that are available in long sleeves for fall!) until she graduates from college.

Y'all, pool season is just around the corner!  I am nowhere near "swimsuit ready" and honestly I don't care.  I just want to have a good time with my kids and husband making memories.  We are lucky in that my mother-in-law has the most amazing pool that overlooks the large pond on the property.  Sometimes when we are down there I have to pinch myself to make sure it's real.  It is just so pretty there. 

This summer will be quite different than it has been the past couple of summers because we will have petit bebe with us!  I am looking forward to introducing her to the water and to our family's summer happy place!  Babies require a few items for a successful pool day and if you have a girl, those items need to be cute!  Here is what will be going in our pool bag for Vivian!

I have a thing for bonnets and mermaids. So, I am glad to see that mermaids are the new unicorn of the season.  We already have the swimsuit/rashguard and it is darling!  Viv has a few other swim suits, but I see her living in the mermaid rashguard.  I love that it has UPF 40 to protect her gorgeous skin.  We will also be piling on the SPF 50 sunscreen.  Hubs had a little scare with a place on his head that had to be removed, so we will all be taking extra caution in the sun from here on out.

While summers in Georgia are unforgiving and can feel close to what you would imagine hell feeling like...and hopefully none of us will have to find out what hell truly feels like...It is still one of my favorite times of the year because of how much time will be spent with family at the pool.  I am also pumped to NOT be pregnant this summer.  Sheesh, I will never know how I have survived two summer pregnancies.

My rules...

It is no secret that I can be picky...even high maintenance at times.  When it comes to my kids clothes, you might as well expect me to be triple picky.  Clothes are very important and are always a part of first impressions, unless your naked...then that would be very weird.

I have a few rules that I have followed when it comes to purchasing clothes for my kids.  Listen, never say never.  my kids have been in some of the worst clothes ever...I am not saying I am 100% successful all of the time, but it is my goal to always ensure our children have proper fitting, classy and quality clothing.

| Rule #1 |

Small or no logos.  I understand the need for brands to have a logo, but I cannot stand the super large logos as I think it makes my kids look like race cars.  I prefer very small logos or no logos at all.

| Rule #2 |

No writing, except on occasion.  I, absolutely, positively, cannot stand clothes for my daughter that have "princess" or "diva" written all over them.  I firmly believe that sets a precedent in our girls lives that we need to avoid.  She is not a princess, I am very sorry to say, as that means I would be a queen, and no divas are allowed in our house.  If she is going to have anything written on her clothes, I hope  it will have words of empowerment on there...but really, lets just stop labeling our kids.

| Rule #3 |

Avoid synthetics.  I want my children to be in 100% cotton.  That is just my personal preference.  I feel like that is the safest option for their skin and one of the more eco-conscious choices.  The only exception to this rule, for me, is sports performance clothing.

So how in the world do I find this mythical unicorn called clothes with no logos, slogans or glitter? My daughter really enjoys their baby dresses.  The baby dresses have a onesie underneath the dress which keeps her belly from being exposed while picking her up.  Bubba really likes their shirts.  He says "...they are soft and I like the bright colors"  They are super comfortable and perfect for playing and being kids in.  They are low maintenance in the laundry department and are very durable.  I really cannot sing their praises enough. Like the true Southern girl that I am, I am NOSE-EEEE!  I gotta know the gossip.  I wanna know what bones are still left in people's closets and I really get curious about what people carry around with them. So I figured I would show you some of the random things in my bag in hopes you will humor this belle by letting me peek in your bag next time I see ya. I am going to assume we all have a wallet, phone and keys in our bags, so I'll skip over those...

You should know, as I was writing this I realized that I am an insanely boring, stereotypical working mother.  I should have thrown a pair of handcuffs in there just to make y'all think I am edgy...It nearly caused me a mini existential crisis...which for a #basicwhitemom means changing up your hair by barely getting it trimmed or getting your nails painted a crazy color like red instead of petal pink....then I realized I am totally comfortable just embracing the stereotype with my shoulder length mom hair, nude nail polish and yoga pants.

I never knew what busy was until I had two children while working full-time, outside of the home, and had one child in baseball.  To keep everything straight, I have to write things down, multiple times, so I know where I am supposed to be when.  I have my Lily planner that goes with me everywhere and I also keep a notebook in case I need to write things down that don't necessarily need to be scheduled...I also keep a desk planner on my desk at work that pretty much has the exact same things written down on it as my Lily planner does...

I remember when I was in junior high and high school, crazy colored pens were all the rage.  I remember my favorite ones were the marble colored and metallic ink pens that were insanely hard to read.  I look back on those days and wonder how in the world our teachers did not just hate our guts...I bet they did, but they were so good at hiding how they really felt most of the time.  Well, 13-17 years later, my love for crazy colored pens never died and now I have to have them everywhere I go.

I really don't need to go in great detail about this.  I have a daughter who is notorious at her day care for her blowouts and a 5 year old son who plays baseball 3 nights a week...Most days my kids end up looking like Pig Pen from Charlie Brown...Mamas got to be prepared!

Once you become a parent, you become the keeper of things...all the things...including toys that your child begged you to let them bring wherever y'all are going...only to play with them for 2 minutes and then ask you to keep them in your purse.  Bubba has not even realized that he has been missing Batman and the Joker for at least 2 months now...true story...I am now conducting a social experiment to see how long it takes him to realize they are missing...I bet he never realizes they are gone because he has too many toys to even notice...

| P A I N T   S A M P L E S |

Hubs and I are getting ready to paint our master bedroom and bathroom.  We can be found at Lowes or Home Depot almost every weekend.  As you can clearly tell we are as basic as you get as we debate about the different types of whites and grays.  I die over the poetic names.  How they come up with them, I will never know.  Painting our walls canyon winds does make me feel more adventurous though...even if we are painting our walls a boring greige...

So there you have it.  I am as predictable as they come...and I am ok with that, for the most part.  What would I find in your purse if I went perusing?

Petit Bebe Style: Late Winter in the South

Do y'all ever look at baby/toddler clothes and wish they made those exact outfits in your size?  Because I surely do!!  Vivian is currently 3 months old.  Occasionally, I will dress her in an actual outfit, but 6 out of 7 days a week she is in a sleeper.  They are easy and comfortable, plus she has nasty blow outs that come out the back of her diaper at least 3 days a week so the easier to change her, the better! While she may not at the age of coordinated outfits just yet, it certainly doesn't stop me from perusing and planning!

If I had to describe the style I prefer for my children with one word, it would be classic.  With the exception of sportswear AKA Under Armour and Nike (I am looking at you, my son...) I like solid colors and the occasional fun design.

All the pretty things...

Before giving birth to Vivian I was anxious about how I was going to handle having a girl.  I am not one to style my hair or coordinate an outfit from head to toe and I am not big on hot pink, sparkles and tulle. Bubba is so easy in terms of style and dress.  Throw on a flannel, some jeans and boots and hes good to go.  He looks like a million bucks.  For girls, its not just about the clothes, it's also about the accessories.  Once I discovered the world of bows, I knew that I may be able to handle having a girl after all!  Bows are the most effortless way to add a feminine touch.

I recently discovered Jayme's Etsy Shop, Sweet Goldie Girl, and I am in love with the bows she makes.  Just give me all the pretty things in her shop please!  One of the first things that struck me about her shop was that some of her bows are made with fabric from my favorite illustrator, Rifle Paper Company!  Viv's bedding, changing pad cover and boppy cover are all Rifle Paper Co fabric.  Naturally, I had to have ALL the bows! I love this style of bow because it is very classic.  No tulle, no sparkles, just quality fabric in some gorgeous prints.

Her adorable bows even made me do something I swore I never would...put a BIG bow on my petit bebe. You know what? I loved every second of it.  It is true what they say "The bigger the bow, the closer to God!"
